MATTY WOLFE

Matty joined the Barnsley Academy in October of 2010 and immediately became one of the standout performers with a number of marvellous performances at all age groups.

Regarded as one of our hottest prospects, the midfielder missed large parts of both the 2017/18 and 2018/19 Professional Development League campaigns through injury.

Back to full fitness in the 2019/20 season, Wolfe would make his long-awaited first team debut in a 1-0 home win against Nottingham Forest in July of 2020 before signing a new two-year deal at the club.

Wolfe then signed a three-month loan-deal with Notts County, to further his development in competitive football. But a back problem, due to growing pains hampered his time at Meadow Lane.

The midfielder joined Danish side Esbjerg fB on loan in the summer of 2021, enjoying a productive three months with the Danes before returning to Oakwell and establishing himself in the Reds' first team at the start of 2022.

Wolfe was voted Young Player of the Season for 2021/22.

Involved heavily during the first half of the following season, Wolfe suffered a freak injury in a behind-closed-doors fixture, damaging his ACL which saw his campaign ended there and then.
