JAMIE MCCART PREVIEWS CAMBRIDGE CHALLENGE

2 October 2023

The defender previewed our trip to Cambridge United on Tuesday evening for the assembled media.

ON SATURDAY'S DEFEAT

"Disappointing. Coming straight off the pitch everyone is disappointed. The staff, the players. But the gaffer has brought us in today and reinforced a lot of positivity. There was a lot good about the performance but there are things that we need to tidy up on in the final third. We obviously gave away a cheap penalty which ultimately decided the game. The gaffer has been really positive and is wanting that from us tomorrow night, to go out and make a statement. Bounce back and give a really positive performance."

ON SQUAD GELLING

"A few new players coming into the system as well, it always makes it more difficult for everyone to gel, but the signs of a really strong team are there. Performances are still good, bar a crazy 20 minutes against Portsmouth at the start of the game. For myself and the rest of the team, we're feeling very positive."

ON CHOOSING THE REDS

"I had a really tough year with injuries last year at Rotherham and I never really got going. I think the manager made it clear this year that my game time would be hard to come by with a lot of defenders at Rotherham so as soon as my agent told me that Barnsley were interested it was a no-brainer for me really. The size of the club, the opportunity to get promoted back to the Championship. Everything about it just seemed right."

ON CAMBRIDGE UNITED

"There's no easy games in this league we've seen that already. Whether it's the top of the league or the bottom, it's a close-knit league and every game is competitive. Obviously they got a good result away at Derby at the weekend, so for us to go there they'll be full of confidence, so we need to start very well and get on the front foot."
