Fans Invited To Pay Their Respects To Rimmo At Oakwell Tomorrow.

11 January 2017

Norman Rimmington's funeral procession will pass by Oakwell at approximately 2:15pm on Thursday 12th January.

Following the recent sad passing of Club legend Norman Rimmington, we can confirm that his funeral will take place tomorrow (Thursday 12th January), with a church service to be held at All Saints Church in Darton, followed by a ceremony at Barnsley Crematorium. A remembrance gathering will then be held at the home of Barnsley Football Club in the Legends Suite. Due to predicted high numbers at the funeral, there will be a sound system outside the church where anyone gathered will be able to hear the service taking place.

Due to the extremely limited space available at all three venues, the family have kindly requested that the funeral service is reserved solely for family members, friends, Rimmo’s colleagues past and present, and teammates. The family fully appreciate that Reds fans far and wide would like to come and pay their respects to Rimmo and are very grateful for your kind words and support at this difficult time.

Barnsley fans are invited to show their appreciation to Rimmo and say their goodbyes as the funeral procession passes by Oakwell Stadium at approximately 2:15pm on the day. The procession will travel down Belgrave Road before turning right onto Grove Street and will stop in front of the iconic West Stand, a special place in Norman's heart and a place where he enjoyed many memorable moments. The procession will then continue down Grove Street, past Oakwell Stadium and onto Pontefract Road. We hope as many fans as possible are able to come down to Oakwell and say goodbye to a truly special man who dedicated his life to the Club.

For fans wishing to pay their respects by laying flowers at Oakwell, an area has now been designated in front of the South Stand (to the left of the Reds Superstore) where they can be placed. A book of condolence has now also been opened up in the Reds Superstore and fans are invited to sign it and leave messages.

Since the sad news broke, tributes for Norman have been pouring in and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has sent in messages of condolence. The response has been overwhelming and both the Club and Norman’s family are thoroughly grateful.

Any of Norman’s friends, former colleagues and teammates requiring further information on the funeral arrangements should e-mail thereds@barnsleyfc.co.uk or telephone 01226 211 182.

Rest in peace, Rimmo.
